From 2016 to 2025, FSWW was in residence at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, home to the largest Afro-American community in the United States. We're grateful for their partnership and continued friendship. As a fellow arts organization, we applaud and support the BHT as a premier institute and hub for the arts, and a central anchor for the Bed-Stuy community.
Frank Alvin Silvera was a Jamaican-born American character actor and theatrical director. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Boston during the 1930s and '40s, he worked in numerous stage productions on and off-Broadway, and radio shows. Making his film debut in 1952, he founded the THEATRE OF BEING, a company for Black actors, in 1965. Our thanks to award-winning director and producer Neema Barnette and BLACK HISTORY MINI DOCS
for this wonderful portrait of Frank.
We are an arts organization dedicated to developing and supporting both new and experienced playwrights who tell stories
of the Afro-American diaspora
and other traditionally marginalized communities.

To continue providing artistic,
developmental support for playwrights
rooted in the Afro-American diaspora,
and artists who are shaping the theater
of the 21st century and beyond.
Billie Allen Henderson, Clayton Riley, Garland Lee Thompson, and Morgan Freeman founded our Audelco, and Obie Award-winning nonprofit in 1973 in the crucible of the American Black Arts Movement.
Thank you so much! Your donations help us to continue supporting playwrights, actors, and directors telling much-needed stories starting, but not ending, with the Afro-American Diaspora.
